What To Do If Charged With Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is a serious case; once the police are called in for a complaint, someone is going with them (usually to jail) for questioning.

What To Do If Charged With Domestic Violence
Here are things you should do when charged with domestic violence:

BE QUIET

You have the right to remain silent, so practice that right by being silent and only talking to the officer when asked with a question.

COOPERATE

When being taken to custody, cooperate with the officer and be polite. You will gain nothing by being rude and/or angering the officer.

DO NOT VIOLATE CONDITIONS OF RELEASE

The judge will release you under certain conditions. DO NOT VIOLATE any of them. One of the conditions is not contacting the accuser.

CALL YOUR LAWYER

Do not call your accuser as it can lead you to more trouble. Call a domestic abuse lawyer and tell him all the details on what has happened.

Lastly, talking with your family members and loved ones should always be prioritized in order for arguments to not escalate into physical violence. It’s always sad when the local authorities will have to get involved in things that can be easily avoided.
