Aspiring Actress Dead in DUI-Related Car Crash

Sammi Kane Kraft, who was riding as a passenger in car driven by a 21-year-old woman suspected of being under the influence, died after succumbing to injuries suffered in an apparent DUI-caused accident on the Santa Monica Freeway early Wednesday.

The driver, Molly Adams of Santa Monica, reportedly rear-ended a tractor-trailer at about 1:30 a.m. near the Crenshaw Boulevard exit of the freeway with her Audi. After the impact of the initial crash, the Audi was then next struck by a Toyota Scion.

California Highway Patrol sources said the 20-year-old Kraft was pronounced dead on arrival at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center from still unspecified injuries. Adams on the other hand was brought to the California Medical Center where she was given treatment for serious injuries. The still unnamed driver of the tractor-trailer was treated for minor injuries.

Adams was later booked on suspicion of felony driving under the influence (DUI) according to authorities.

Kraft was best known for her role as Little League pitcher Amanda Whurlitzer in the recent remake of the 1976 hit comedy, "Bad News Bears." It was also her first professional acting job. She was a real-life former Little Leaguer and she got the role because she was really good at playing on the baseball field.
