Prescription Drugs = DUI Charges?

Prescription Drugs = DUI Charges?
In Las Vegas, driving under the influence of illegal drugs or alcoholic beverages can get you some serious trouble. It is such strong violation that there are cases when it escalates from a simple misdemeanor into a severe felony. DUI charges in Las Vegas are quite harsh as compared to the other states because conviction normally leads in a one year to six years of imprisonment. Of course, not to forgot the suspension of the driver’s license, fines, penalties, community services and possible rehabilitation. Not so cool, huh? So consult a DUI defense attorney if you are charged with DUI. This is to lessen the charges against you.

Since it is an axiom that drinking messes up your system, people should be mindful of drinking and driving altogether. But what others may not possibly know is prescription drugs can be used as viable reason to charge someone with DUI!

Unsuspecting as the defendant might argue, the law defends itself that any form of substance, alcoholic in nature or not, so long as it affects the biological sequence of the driver is susceptible to cause harm especially when on-wheels. The surprise factor elevates more when some of the over-the-counter drugs can trigger DUI charges. Prescription medication or not, the vision of the law only sees black and blue.

If halted by police officer while driving for a confirmation, the defendant might even pass the breath test but field sobriety is still admissible in court. Any sign of being an impaired driver (like being too sleepy) caused by drug medication is enough for conviction.

People who suffer from certain diseases like Parkinson’s, sleep apnea, macular degeneration among others are also not advised to take wheels. Since the diseases stated above can heavily affect locomotive control, driving can only imperil lives—especially on the late stages of the certain diseases.

What others may not also not is you don’t have to drive cars to be charged with DUI! Some states even simplify the DUI/DWI to even riding bicycles. And mind you, standard bicycles with no motors on it.
